One of such things that technology has introduced into banking in Nigeria is the USSD codes which Ecobank and other Nigerian banks have embraced wholeheartedly.
With the USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) installed on one’s mobile device, a customer can perform so many banking activities ranging from fund transfer, balance checks, airtime top up and paying other bills.
Ecobank Code
Like every other bank in Nigeria, Ecobank has a designated code for its customers which is dedicated to helping them carry out transactions at ease and conveniently.
The designated USSD code for Ecobank is *326#.
This code works on every mobile device and is suitable for every network service provider.
Once the code is dialed, it automatically directs you to all the transaction activities provided by Ecobank.
The USSD transfer option, helps you transfer money from your bank account to another bank account, be it Ecobank or any other bank, Top up your airtime, and Check your account balance among other things without stress and in the time of emergency. The USSD code is most suitable for paying for people without access to internet Banking and the Ecobank mobile banking app.
To qualify to have access to, and use Ecobank’s USSD code on your device, you need the fulfill the following requirements;
- You need to first have an Ecobank account
- A mobile Device
- A sim card that is linked to your Ecobank account
- An Ecobank Debit Card
How to Activate Ecobank USSD Code
A customer cannot randomly use the USSD code. It has to be set up on your device using the requirements above.
Setting up an Ecobank USSD code on your device is quite simple and easy to do. It is something you can navigate on your own.
To set up your Ecobank USSD code to your device simply follow the following instructions
- Dial *326# on four mobile phone
- When dialing the code for the first time, you will be presented with the following options;
- Open Express Account
- Activate USD
- Open Xpress Save
- Get an Xpress loan.
Click on “Activate USSD”
- Make sure this is done with the mobile number registered and linked to your bank account.
- An on-screen prompt will come up asking you to choose the debit card that is linked to your bank account.
- Input the necessary details and click on the proceed button/icon.
- You will be prompted to verify the ownership of your account by entering some personal details.
- Answer the question by providing the necessary details and clicking on the submit button.
- You will be asked to create a secret PIN (personal identification number) that is known to you alone and will be used subsequently to authorize your transactions.
- The process to create a PIN that is unique and that you can remember easily.
- Click the submit button and wait for a confirmation message from Ecobank.
If your registration is successful, you will receive an SMS saying “your registration was successful”. When that happens, you’ve successfully set up Ecobank’s USSD code on your device.
If you encounter difficulty or find it impossible to successfully set up the Ecobank USSD Code to your device, kindly walk into a branch of the bank. A customer service staff will guide you through.
Ecobank Transfer Code
Transferring money using USSD from your account to another account isn’t difficult to do. The following steps give a clear guide on how to do that
- Dial *326# on your mobile device.
- You’ll be directed to some options; choose ‘transfer funds.’
- Choose the recipient’s bank from the list of banks that’ll be presented.
- Type in the receiver’s bank account number.
- The recipient’s name will display Confirm the name and make sure it’s valid before you proceed.
- If the name is not correct, cancel the transaction and start all over again
- Press next and input the transaction password.
- Enter the secret PIN you created when setting up and click send.
- Your transfer is successful.
Once your transfer is approved, you’ll receive a debit alert from Ecobank.
Ecobank Recharge Code (Airtime & Data)
To buy airtime and data using Ecobank’s USSD code, simply dial *326# on your phone number linked to your Ecobank account, then select the Buy Airtime/Data option, enter the amount of airtime you want to buy, enter the phone number you want to buy airtime for and then input your PIN to confirm the transaction. You will receive the airtime once your transaction is successful.
Ecobank Check Account Balance Code
To check your account balance, dial the main Ecobank USSD code which is *326#, you will see the account balance option on your screen, select the number that corresponds to the option then input your transaction PIN. Your account balance will be displayed on the screen if you put your PIN correctly.
